Head and Heart: A Framework for Curriculum Selection

If there is one word to describe East Hills’ academic program, it is “intentional.” We know that what goes in the minds of our students imprints on their hearts. This requires tremendous care in, attention to, and discernment of the content we teach the students– from the stories we select to read to our students, to the amount of time allocated to teach a topic, to deciding what must be mastered versus introduced. All of it matters.

This responsibility is not taken lightly, nor is it left up to chance. We pay attention to the details, and East Hills has spent tremendous time, resources, and expertise to research, select, and design an intentional academic program that helps our students develop a deep understanding of our world and their place in it.

We would like to introduce you to some of the curriculum and instructional practices we have selected to teach your children, our students, beginning this fall. In “Curriculum Conversations,” you will learn a bit about each program, its design, and why we know it is the best program for your child.

In addition, we will introduce you to a few of the effective and engaging instructional practices used by our teachers to ensure students master the content and skills laid out in the curriculum. Such practices are critical, as the curriculum is only as effective as the teacher teaching it.

With your child in mind, great time, expertise, and love have been poured into the development of East Hills Academy. In the weeks to come, we hope you enjoy learning a bit more about how we aim to imprint on your child’s heart in the most beautiful, honoring way.
