Our team at East Hills Academy avidly awaits the first day of school with excitement!
The Summer Teacher Academy began on July 13, and teachers are participating through in-depth training on the curriculum and culture. Furthermore, members of our team have prepared for the opening of East Hills for months and years! The first day of school will truly mark a celebration of communal efforts.
In the same spirit (and through both perspectives as a parent and a principal), I would like to offer considerations for families as we prepare for day one:
- Attend the Family Orientation on July 24, 2026, as well as the Open House on August 7. Noteworthy information will be provided regarding logistical components such as dropping students off for school and how to communicate with staff members. Furthermore, families will meet the teachers and visit the classrooms during Open House!
- Ensure all supplies, clothing, and backpacks are labeled with your child’s name.
- Begin establishing routines such as going to bed on time, setting out clothes to wear in the morning, and packing snacks and lunches the night before.
- Wake up your child a little earlier during the first week to ensure he or she has time to eat a healthy breakfast and get used to the new morning routine.
- Arrive no later than 7:40. Classes begin promptly at 7:45, so arriving at school a little earlier will give your child plenty of time to join class.
- Please do not accompany your child to his or her classroom. Rather, remind your child that the adults at school will help him or her find their class. (The Open House event on August 7 presents the opportunity for families to familiarize themselves with the location of specific classrooms.)
- Practice independent activities such as putting on shoes, opening food items, sitting appropriately at a table, cleaning up, and taking turns. Even minimal practice will aid in your child’s success at school.
- Communicate as soon as possible if your child has food allergies or daily medications so we can meet his or her health needs.
