Many parents walk away from our informational meetings excited about something they never expected to care so much about: our family-friendly calendar and schedule. It may seem like a small detail, but for many families, it makes a significant difference in their daily lives.
Have you ever wondered why your child had the Monday before spring break off, only to return to school Tuesday through Friday, and then have the following week off for spring break? Or why dozens of school calendars include two consecutive four-day weeks in October followed by a full week off for fall break? What about weekly early-release or late-start days? Or the random half- or full-day off every few weeks?
For many families, each of these days creates one more challenge to solve. Parents have to leave work early, arrive late, take a day off of work, or arrange and pay for childcare. Families are already juggling a lot; they shouldn’t also have to juggle their child’s school calendar.
When we designed East Hills Academy, we wanted to remove those barriers. That’s why our calendar is simple and predictable: no early releases, no late starts, no half days, and no random days off. Outside of federal holidays, standard school breaks, two teacher work days, and weather-related delays or closures, we are in session Monday through Friday, from 7:45 a.m. to 3:15 p.m., August through May.
We believe that what’s best for families is ultimately what’s best for students. That’s why we intentionally designed East Hills Academy to be a school that works for working families.
